Welcome to the Fire Department

The Auburn Hills Fire Department originated as a volunteer fire department in 1942 serving Pontiac Township.  Today, the Auburn Hills Fire Department is professionally staffed with 17 career and 35 part-time personnel serving 17 square miles with a residential population of 20,000 and a day-time population of over 100,000.  Annually, the department responds to over 2,900 calls for service with an ISO rating of 5.  The department is comprised of three divisions: Administrative Services, Fire Prevention and Operations.

The Administrative services division is staffed by the Fire Chief and an administrative assistant who are responsible for human resources, planning, budgeting and department records.

The Fire Prevention division is staffed by the Fire Marshal and a sworn Fire Inspector.  The division offers a variety of services consisting of: plan review of automatic suppression and detection systems, testing and inspection of systems, final occupancy inspections and existing building inspections.  The Fire Prevention division is also responsible for determining the cause and origin of all fires.  For our residents, we offer free smoke detector installation in your home as well as free home fire safety surveys.

The Operations Division is staffed by the Assistant Chief of Operations and 59 sworn officers and firefighters, 17 of which are State of Michigan licensed Paramedics and 30 are state licensed Basic Emergency Medical Technicians.  This division is responsible for the delivery of a wide range of emergency services to the community which include: fire and emergency medical response, water rescue, high and low angle rescue, confined space rescue, trench rescue, building collapse and hazardous materials response from three strategically located fire stations.

The Auburn Hills Fire Department is trained and equipped to serve the diverse community of residents and businesses that have chosen the City of Auburn Hills as their home.  Our primary goal is to deliver the highest quality of service  to all of our customers.  Our mission statement is our guide for planning, development and managing change to ensure that we are meeting our customers expectations.  That mission statement is: "This department is dedicated to preserving life, property and the environment utilizing effective principles and practices of modern fire and life safety technology."
