Pre-MSO Pickleball Tournament
Happy New Year!  Pre-MSO Pickleball Tournament
Start the new year with PICKELBALL!  This Women’s Doubles & Men’s Doubles tournament is part of the new Southeast Michigan tournament series and is a great way to begin the year.  The Michigan Senior Olympics (MSO) winter games are being held in February 2, 3 & 4 and will be including pickleball for the first time!  If you are participating in MSO, this tournament will be great practice for the games!  So grab a partner and mail in or drop off your registration to the community center.  Watch for other SE Michigan Tournaments throughout 2009 with discounted prices for USAPA members; become a member online at www.usapa.org" If you are a USA Pickelball Association (USAPA) member there is a $10 discount in price for this tournament,  refund & registration deadline December 22nd.  NO SUBSTITUTIONS.  Awards for 1st, 2nd & 3rd place and snacks provided.  Start times are subject to change.

Senior Services Fitness and Health Programs
Fitness programs open to adults age 55 and up.  Must register and have a Community Center card and valid photo ID.  Residency requirements for some programs.
 
Residents of Auburn Hills with a Community Center Card can use the Fitness Room at the Community Center FREE OF CHARGE Monday - Friday, 8 AM - 9 PM and Saturday, 10 AM - 9 PM.  You must check-in at the Front Desk and provide your Community Center Card (non-residents may purchase a fitness pass, call for details). 
 
The fitness room includes treadmills, elliptical, a strength machine, stationary bike and more.  Showers and lockers are available; please bring your own lock and towel.

Chair Exercise & Heart Smart Golden Beats
Chair Exercise - Chair Exercise is a drop in class that can be done in a seated position. Mild strength and toning, stretching and relaxation techniques help improved flexibility.

Golden Beats - Golden Beats uses simple seated & standing low impact movements while playing rhythms with drumsticks on a ball.  Class will include balance and gentle endurance exercises using hand weights.  No musical talent necessary, just a great attitude!  Led by a certified Drums Alive instructor.  On-going drop in program.

Gentle Yoga - Mat or Chair
This class is designed to start a yoga practice at your most comfortable level.  You will learn to move with your breath, stretch, strengthen and lengthen your muscles using gentle moves in and beside the chair or on your mat.  This class will give you a starting point for a regular yoga practice that you can personalize to your own body.  * Bring your own yoga mat if you are planning on going to the floor.  If using a mat be sure you can get down to and off of the floor on your own.  Everyone please bring a sturdy cotton type blanket & yoga blocks are encouraged.

Senior Co-ed Bounce Volleyball

PLAYERS WANTED!  Come and try this modified volleyball game in the CC gym that will keep you moving and is appropriate for all levels of play.  Having fun is the main goal.  The program is run by the Senior Fitness Coordinator.  Must be registered to play.

Weight Room Coach
This time is for residents who would like to use the Fitness Room, but aren’t sure what to do with the machines!  Sign up to meet with the Senior Fitness Coordinator who will walk you through each machine step by step to help get you started.  Feel free to make this appointment more than once for continued support or to shake up your routine.

Pickle Ball - NEW DAY ADDED!
Come and try this growing sport!  Pickle ball will be held indoors and is a simple paddle game, playing a special perforated slow-moving ball over a tennis type net on a badminton sized court.  If you love racquet sports, you’ll love Pickle ball!  Get your workout in while having a great time with a great group of people.  Monday play time is split into an early time for Just For Fun play and later for the more Competitive player.  Wednesday is open play.   MUST REGISTER TO PLAY

Drums Alive Power Beats Aerobics
Drums Alive Power Beats is a fun workout that combines simple dance aerobic movements with drumming on a fitness ball.  We will enjoy low impact cardiovascular exercise and simple strength & endurance exercises using weights and abdominal/core exercises using the ball.  Golden Power Beats is for energetic individuals 55+ and is comparable to a traditional low impact dance aerobics class.  Burn calories, get strong, have fun!  Led by a certified Drums Alive instructor.  Please wear supportive shoes, and bring an exercise mat.

Walking Club
Walk or jog your way to fitness!  The Community Center features a walking track that is available for use to our Walking Club members.  Walkers have the opportunity to participate in resistance exercise intervals using bands, weights, balance equipment and occasionally balls, track your miles!  Music provided.   Gym shoes required.

Cardio Kickbox Fitness Class
Everyone can enjoy this exercise class that can help strengthen your heart, increase aerobic endurance, core strength, balance and coordination.  Kicking and punching or “shadowboxing” to upbeat music is fun and empowering!  You will always be working at a walk level, we will use light weights for muscle endurance training at the end and finish with a great stretch.  Join Michelle for a new adventure in fitness and cardio kick your way to better health!  Bring a mat to do core-work at the end of class. Tai Chi for Health
If you love to dance you will love Tai Chi.  Some call Tai Chi a moving meditation because it can be very relaxing.  Tai Chi has also been called a health dance because it has health benefits too.  Tai Chi is known for improving balance, strengthening muscles and bones, reducing stress and lowering blood pressure.  Wear comfortable clothes and shoes.

Senior Lap Swim & Track at Oakland University Rec. Center
Auburn Hills Senior Services and Oakland University are teaming up to offer Auburn Hills residents 55+ and opportunity to use the University fitness facility.  Lap swim and track usage is available to senior resident with a Community Center card.  Register at the Auburn Hills Community Center.  Must have a Community Center Card.

Blood Pressure Screenings
Blood Pressure screenings by volunteers are available the second Monday and the fourth Wednesday of each month between 11:00 a.m. and noon.  No appointments are necessary.  Also seeking volunteers to take blood pressures.
