If you are an Oakland County resident over the age of 60 you may be eligible to participate in the Thomas M. Cooley Law School Estate Planning Clinic. The Estate Planning Clinic is a teaching clinic staffed by Cooley Law students, attorneys and staff who work directly with clients to help solve their Estate Planning concerns. Residents with a Senior Card need to stop by the Community Center to receive a new “Community Center Card”.  Cardholders can participate in a variety of city sponsored senior programs, special events, and other programs FREE OF CHARGE or at DISCOUNTED RATES). Your FREE Community Center Card may be obtained only at the Community Center located in Civic Center Park, 1827 N. Squirrel Rd., Monday – Friday, 8AM-9PM, Saturday, 10AM-9PM.  Proof of residency required

Residents of Auburn Hills with a Community Center Card can use the Fitness Room at the Community Center FREE OF CHARGE Monday-Friday, 8AM-9PM and Saturday, 10AM-9PM.  You must check-in at the Front Desk and provide your Community Center Card (non-residents may purchase a Fitness Pass, inquire for details).  The Fitness Room includes treadmills, ellipticals, a multi-station strength machine, stationary bike and more.  Showers and lockers are available - please bring own lock.

NEW – KNOX BOX SAFETY PROGRAM
Introducing a new way to help an elderly or disabled person stay in their own home and enjoy independent living…using the Knox-Box Safety Program.  Participants in this program will have a secure lock box installed on the exterior of their home which contains a key to the home.  Only the Auburn Hills Fire Department personnel will have a master key to unlock this box to gain secure entry into the home in the event of a medical emergency.  This program enables emergency personnel to reach your loved one in the event that they are unable to answer the door themselves.  It also eliminates the need for a forced entry or dependence on a neighbor who may not be available for a key.   This program is made possible through the generosity of the Fire Department.

Applicants must contact World Medical Relief (WMR) at (313) 866-5333.  WMR staff will refer Senior to a Prescription Program enrollment site in their local community.  Once referred, the Senior must call the program enrollment site to set up an appointment.  Site counselors will meet with applicants to determine eligibility.  (NOTE:  Seniors will be required to bring proof of income, bank statements, and other documents.  The referral site will explain what they will need to have with them.)  The program site will inform Seniors if they are eligible to participate.

 

Seniors who qualify for the Prescription Program will be able to participate in the program indefinitely.  Prescriptions cost $7.00 each.  There is also a shipping/mailing fee that participants are required to pay if medications are mailed to them.

 

A registered pharmacist fill prescriptions in WMR’s state-licensed pharmacy.  Doctors can call in or fax prescription to WMR or seniors can mail them in or drop them off.  The pharmacy fills and distributes prescriptions, usually within 5-10 days.  Filled prescriptions can be mailed, sent UPS, or picked up.

Keep In Touch - K.I.T. is a telephone reassurance program for seniors who are homebound or are caregivers.  K.I.T. volunteers call enrolled participants five days a week to check on them and to chat for a few minutes.  This telephone reassurance program is open to seniors who are caring for an individual who might not be able to summon help if necessary.  This program is ideal for people who have just come home from the hospital and would benefit from a friendly daily check.  Participants enrolled in the program are also enrolled in the Vial of Life emergency information system.  To enroll call 248-370-9353.
